Mission Statement

The main mission of the choir is to the church. The choir has the vital role of worship leader.
A spirit filled choir can proclaim the gospel as no other body can. Musicians and singers have been commissioned to create the atmosphere in which true, heartfelt worship can be offered to our Lord and Savior. To be a part of the choir requires more than an interest but a calling. The commitment to the ministry of the choir is not to be taken lightly. A commitment of time each week must be made for attendance at rehearsals, worship services and in personal spiritual growth. Because the Choir has the role or "worship leader", it is integral that each member continue to grow in their faith, knowledge and understanding of God's word as a means to worship "in spirit and in truth" and live a life that is pleasing and glorifying to God.

Concert of Praise 2008
The Combined Choir will again be hosting a Spring Concert of Praise, inviting friends from the community and congregation members to join them in presenting a concert of their favorite anthems.

Concert dates are Friday May 16th at 7:30 and Saturday May 17th at 4:00 and 7:00. Performances will be held at St Matthews in Sandown.

Choirs

St Matthews offers music ministry opportunities for all ages. There are four choirs, one for every age group.

JAM- Our youngest singers begin in JAM (Jesus and Me) at the age of 4 through 1st grade. They rehearse every Sunday immediately following their Promise Land class at 11:00. They sing on the 4th Sunday of every month. This awesome group of pre-schoolers is led by Kathy St Germain.

M4P- M4 P is our choir for kids in grade 2 through 6. M4P rehearses every Thursday night, from 6:45 to 7:30 pm (except during school vacation weeks). M4P sings in the 8:45 worship service at St Matts on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. M4P will be directed by Elayne Gleason, assisted by Beth Soucise.
Rehearsals start with some worship music and prayer time. Some weeks we might play games or do activities related to the music we are singing (some days there are even prizes involved). Every member will receive a practice CD to practice with at home.
There are a lot of activities that you can be involved in during the school year and sometimes it is hard to know which to join. By being a part of M4P, you can make friends with other kids who have similar beliefs as you do, you will grow in your understanding of God and how much He loves you, you will be involved in an activity that really makes God smile……….. He loves it when we worship Him !

SHE- Senior High Ensemble is our group of High School singers. Including some 8th graders, this group includes all high school grades. They rehearse every Thursday evening from 6:45 - 7:30 and sing one Sunday a month. Along with their music they are also involved in a study on worship.
This group is led by Beth Soucise

Adult Choir - Our Adult Choir(s) is really a blending of the Adult Choir from each of our sites: St Matthews and The Rock. We rehearse together every Thursday evening from 7:30-9:30 and each choir commits to leading worship at their home church 2 Sundays a month and also one Sunday at the other site. This choir is for college-age and up.

Part of the success of this choir and it's ministry is the process of studying what God's word has to say about worship and what our role as worship leader should be. The role of the choir is to lead worship; not entertain. Our goal is for those who are worshipping with us to enter into the presence of the Lord, using the music as the resource.

Special Outreach Projects

Over the years the Music ministry at St Matts and then St Matts and The Rock combined, have been host to a number of special projects.

For many years there has been an Easter Cantata and members of the community have been invited to participate. Also for the Lenten-Easter season we have preformed an Easter Musical Drama and incorporated those gifted in sewing, set building and design into this outreach ministry.

We have presented 3 Christmas Cantatas in the past 6 years and one of the highlights was being able to almost fill the Performing Arts Center of Timberlane High School .

In May 2006, we stepped out in faith and tried something different. In stead of our usual Easter Cantata we presented a Spring Concert of Praise. Three performances of House of Praise were held and recorded and has now become our first recorded CD. The CD is available for $15.00 at either site and proceeds will benefit both Building Funds.

The Men's Band
The Men's Band, is just that. A Band, of men- for men. These guys have been together for years and the devotion to their ministry and each other is very evident. They lead powerful worship every first Monday of each month at……… you guessed it, First Monday. They will occasionally fill in for the Praise Team at the Rock and also have been invited by other area churches and Men's Groups to lead worship. This dynamic group is led by Hal Beede, other members include: Gary Nourse on drums, Steve Murray on guitar, Rob Simmons on vocals and Jeff Eaton on bass.
